Day Services

Woorinyan Day Services provides a wide range of activities for approximately 73 service users.

Woorinyan adopts a Person Centred approach that ensures that service users undertake activities of their interest and choice, with emphasis on community inclusion.

Activities include:

  • Further education & training; especially for Futures for Young Adults service users in the area of Information Technology and Vocational skill development.
  • Personal Development and social skills. 
  • Music & Movement
  • Art & Crafts
  • Grooming & Personal Hygiene
  • Exciting recreational opportunities from sailing to basketball
  • Travel Training
  • Life skills, money handling, cooking etc.
  • Communication development for all service users lead by Woorinyan's Communications Facilitator

Woorinyan provides subsidised transport to and from the Centre if public transport is a problem subject to seats on the bus being available.

Staffing

The minimum recruitment requirement for Day Service Staff is Certificate IV in Disability Studies (or acceptable equivalent) and First Aid Level 2.

All Woorinyan staff have had lengthy experience in the disability field and are also appointed based on their qualities of leadership & empathy with people with a disability,

The Day Service building and surrounds are to be substantially redeveloped during 2007-2008 to provide a state of the art facility that will be the base for all service delivery and allow greater community interaction through is use by service users and the community together.

In 2007 Woorinyan Day Service will achieve quality certification that will guarantee that all its activities and objectives are conducted at the highest standards.
